1. Remix: integrating prior knowledge about the process of writing and new techniques that the tutor will introduce in a way that creates a new mode.  This is an important aspect of tutoring because working to improve the student's writing will be a collaborative effort and the final product should reflect what they had known already coming into the RWC, but with improvements that make it stronger.

1. Exigence: I did not know this term before class but it is perhaps the most important element of writing. It is the student's purpose for writing: a problem or topic they feel requires discussion through writing. I think of exigence in essays as the thesis which the tutor and the student must work to make sure that the paper discusses effectively throughout, through strong arguments and support. In creative writing the exigence can be thought of as the message they want to convey through their piece. Exigence is important in both genres because without a purpose for writing, it will lack strength and authority.

3. Banking: Longman describes the previous model of teaching writing as such, with teachers doling out information like money, as opposed to allowing for students the freedom to create their own ideas. This will inform my experience in the RWC because instead of telling the student what I think is correct I will pay attention to their ideas and build off of them.

4. Discourse: "A socially accepted association among ways of using language, thinking, and of acting that can be used to identify oneself as a member of a socially meaningful group or 'social network'". It will be important to make sure that the student's work reflects the discourse of the class that they are writing for.

5 Peer: A colleague whom we consider to be of equal status. In the RWC though we may act as teachers sometimes, generally we will talk to students in a way that reflects this mindset. In other words, we will talk to them respectfully, listen to their ideas, and treat them as equals.
